Here are some images from the catalog for the amazing Studio Ghibli Structures Exhibition, held at the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum in Koganei till the 15th March 2015. For some pictures from the exhibition, see this and this post.
Many of these background art pieces can also be found in the respective Ghibli “Art Of” books for each film, but this catalog showcases them neatly under the collective architectural theme with additional notes and captions, and the print quality is also better than some of the art books released for the earlier Ghibli films.
Several of the Ghibli background artists whose art work is featured in this catalog have released art books of their own, namely Kazuo Oga, Yamamoto Nizo and Ono Hiroshi.
I want to take this opportunity again to recommend folks who are traveling to Tokyo to visit this exhibition ( on till the 15th March 2015 ); seeing the originals of these stunning background art pieces really make one fall in love with Ghibli films all over again. In light of the studio’s recent announcement to cease the production of feature animated films, a visit at this juncture seems even more pertinent.
Availability : Limited copies of this catalog can be purchased from Amazon Japan here and here. The book is otherwise available only at the exhibition venue.
