Valkyries ~Third Sortie~ is volume 3 ( see review for vol 1 and vol 2 here. ) of Tenjin Hidetaka’s series of Macross art books, with gorgeous illustrations of the mecha (variable fighters) appearing in the highly popular sci-fi anime series.

This third installment comes with both Japanese and English captions for each illustration, so readers can now learn more about the background for each piece of art work appearing in the book. Every art work is presented on its own page and the colors and clarity of the reproductions are superb.

These Macross mecha illustrations are the best I’ve seen anywhere, and coupled with the high quality of the reproductions and the excellent presentation this book gets my highest recommedations. ( also check out book reviews for volume 1 and vol 2 here )

If you’re a fan of mecha, I also recommend Yuji Kaida’s Gundam art works.
